Humanity is an online journal which publishes papers presented at the Macquarie-Newcastle Humanities Postgraduate Symposium. This symposium was first held in February 2007 and will be an annual event.
The symposium provides postgraduate students with the opportunity to develop a wider audience for their research and to take part in an exchange of ideas and methodologies that will broaden the research culture of both universities. It will also develop an understanding of the Humanities as a cohesive research community.
As from 2008 Humanity will also provide postgraduates with experience in editing and refereeing the papers. This will provide them with unique understanding of the issues they will face when they themselves submit papers to professional journals.
The theme of the inaugural symposium was The Power of Perceptions. There is extensive latitude within this theme. Papers chosen for the symposium involve the relativity of truth, political propaganda, manipulation of ideas, changing concepts, the ambiguities and illusions of "reality", the power of imagination and creativity...and much else besides.
